I won't have a dedicated hardware for the Invis server, at least not in my first 'lab phase' when I have to use my AM3 machine as a combined home workstation and server. Did I hear that's a bad idea :)
Now and then I have played a little with Xen virtualization on openSUSE, and the SLES/Xen/OES2/W2k3TS evironment works well for us on my workplace, though not configured technically by myself.
Can Invis be installed and run streamlined on a Xen/openSUSE virtual machine (domU), or will this complicate?

Hello Terje, yes it's possible to install invis Servers in virtual Machines. But there are a few difficulties: 1. With XEN 3.x it was impossible to run the DHCP-Server in a domU. We installed him on dom0, with the problem the the invis-domU with his LDAP-Directory had to start before you start the DHCP-Server on dom0. To realize this is a little bit tricky. 2. Using the FAX-Function is not easy. When we tried this, we use "mtg capri" as a LAN-CAPI Server and Client infrastructure to let the invis domU access the FritzCard of the dom0. 3. invis Servers are routers for internet-connection, this functionality should be transferred to the dom0. For Testing testing-purpose we installed invis in VirtualBox-Machines. Without the FAX-Functionality this worked very well.
