On SuSE Linux 7.1 (ia64), oracle fail to load with large SGA.
We are trying to start oracle rdbms server with 6GB of SGA and has
specified shmmax to 1GB. Oracle will create all the shared memory
segments and semophores, but then hangs afterwards (takeing 100% of
system time but does not make forward progress on itself).
I believe the kernel was build with 8K page size. The oracle hang
problem later resolved when we switch to a custom build kernel with 16K
page size. I think it is still important to resolve the issue on 8k
page size kernel.
Linux version 2.4.1-SMP (root@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) (gcc version
2.96-ia64-000717 snap 001117) #1
4xB3 Lion, bios build 76, 8GB memory
p.s. Rod Skinner has sent you the login issue we are seeing.
