There used to be a knob to disable automatic download of available updates. GNOME in Factory has appearently lost that knob. SLE12 has it in a prominent place. The help button of gpk-prefs still shows the pulldown menus which are not there anymore.
So, how do I disable checking for updates and all that in Factory?
Olaf,
The downloading of updates is nowadays controlled by gnome-software
(gpk-update-viewer still works, but is not the main way of package
management in GNoME 3.14 anymore).
you're right though: the setting to not pre-cache updates seems to have
gone lost...
Nevertheless, it's in the schema, so you can toggle it using:
gsettings set org.gnome.software download-updates false
Hope that helps for now.
