[opensuse-gnome] gstreamer speex support

I was just trying to use speex in gstreamer on opensuse 11.2 and apparently it's not packaged. I need it for good quality calls in empathy supposedly, so it'd be great if we packaged it by default. I believe it should be in gstreamer-good but we don't have it in ours. Is that right or did I just miss the required package? Hi. I´m just wanna ask, why we have Tomboy when it consumes roughly three times what Gnote[1] requires in terms of memory[2] and it´s slower than Gnote? What about start thinking about replacing Tomboy by Gnote? This is the old text, slightly updated (my comments or questions are prefixed with '>'): Text of the openSUSE Start-Up Guide starts here: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- cut here -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Using the GNOME Update Applet ----------------------------- The update applet resides in the notification area of your panel. Its icon changes depending on the availability and relevance of patches and the status of the update. The applet is started by default, choose Computer > More Applications > System > Update System. > At least with our test packages, the appearance of the icon does not > seem to change. NOTE: Icon visibility By default, the update applet icon is only visible in the notification area, if patches are available. > This seems to be true Open box with a globe The update is busy (for example checking for updates or installing software). Red Star with Exclamation Mark Security patches are available. Orange Star with an Up Arrow Important patches are available. Yellow Star with a Down Arrow Trivial patches are available. [opensuse-gnome] Starting NetworkManager from Gnome main menu?

According to the openSUSE manual (Start-Up) you could start the "Network Connections" dialog from the Gnome main menu, if you click on the "Network:" entry in the right pane while NM is running. Now (tested on M7) the Yast network configuration is called. Is this intended bahavior? I've been reading on how GNOME has become snappier and Evolution 2.30 has undergone a lot of changes for the good :) I'd appreciate some advise on upgrading my GNOME 2.28 to 2.30. [opensuse-gnome] GDM 11.2 went broken

Dear list-memebers, Following my latest post titled: Re: [opensuse-gnome] 11.2 Gnome update VS STABLE:2.28, I regrettably have to ask some guidance about recovering my GDM, since it suddenly get broken. Latest changes I made immediately before the broke have been: 1) Reverting from G:S:2.28 to update repo and ran a zypper dup 2) Rebooting the system by maintaining "gdm" and "gnome" respectively into /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager and /etc/sysconfig/windowmanager, noticed very high CPU/MEM load up to 99%/50% from gconfd-2 running endlessly 3) No way to see the gdm-greeter after long await 4) As per recent logs, I believe there is something wrong with GConf or better with policy-kit: GConf: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.). 5) Actually the sole workaround to get the gdm greeter and Gnome desktop is to edit /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager and changing the line "gdm" into "kdm", doing this I can login into Gnome perfectly. Wonder if somebody can suggest me some ways to cure to the problem. I've also thought as last resource to uninstall completely GNOME and install it back again. [opensuse-gnome] Cutting GDM dependencies

Hello, we've recently encountered some problems with the LXDM login manager and it has turned out that the codebase is not really mature yet and suffers from some IMO rather fundamental quality problems which need to be addressed upstream (see. eg bnc#584573). It would therefore be desirable to have GDM as a fallback for users who encounter problems with LXDM or even to possibly switch to it as the default login manager for the 11.3 release. The problem is that GDM currently depends on most of the Gnome desktop through its dependency on gnome-panel and gnome-session. The indirect dependencies could be drastically reduced by putting the libgnome-panel-2 library and the core runtime files of gnome session in separate subpackages of gnome-panel and gnome-session and by making gdm depend on these subpackages only. It is pretty late, but would it be possible to reorganize the three packages like this?
