It'll be a shame if I have to step aside from our defined standard. But as long
as we're running GWMSG I will need to stick to it. And as such I will
most likely not be able to provide input if empathy works or not.
As for proxies, I'll let Dominique comment there. My guess, though, is
that most people don't have to use proxies, so are not affected. People
using proxies will know that they have to use one, and can use pidgin
instead.
Thanks for the honor. Certainly not every protocol is able to pass (easily)
through a proxy. Especially things like IRC (I think that works with
empathy too?) is very tricky and in most situations not handled by proxies
(standard proxies.. socks will work but they are hard to find in any
non-geek environment) But then: if you have to go through a proxy then you're
most likely in a corp environment where anyhow they would not want you
to use IRC.
For the other protocols, I'm somewhat surprised that no work was done in
empathy to get libproxy support in (isn't the connection done mostly using
libsoup?). GNOME has generally a very good proxy support and it's a shame that
this is missing. But blocking Empathy from being the default for this
very reason is not needed I think.
