found a bug report in bnc about this... (well, at least somebody noticed it
does not work).

The problem is as simple as the solution: due to linking with -Wl,-as-needed,
the linking of json-glib-1.0 is dropped. The missing symbols are not a
problem for the library, as it can expect that the main application linking the
lib in is taking care of it and then everything would be fine. Just
that pidgin also does not link json-glib-1.0...
well, some rewrite of the makefile (which for some obscure reason our package
provides an own one, instead of using the originally shipped one?) with
this patch and the resulting library has json-glib linked... now up to testing
if this also work s:)
