Dominique,

If using zypper from the Cli you'll need to run SuSEconfig afterwards,
something the yast frontend does by default.

I've been using empathy for a couple of months now without any issues so I'm
all for switching. It's also the default client for Moblon, both upstream and
the openSUSE/SLE variant so it makes sense.

Regards,

Andy

Hi,

I'd like to discuss using empathy as the default IM client again :-)
Last time, we didn't make the switch because it was not totally ready.
But lots of work has happened in the meantime and empathy has some cool
new features:
Limitations that were blocking this in the past were:

+ file transfer (implemented now)
+ a bit buggy (should work fine now)

You motivated me to test it again... so
$ sudo zypper in empathy

$ empathy

Starts up.. first thing I see: the tray icon is just a square, gray blob...
bleh.
Let's try to create an account:
Edit, Accounts, adding my groupwise messenger account. enabling it... waiting
... waiting...

oh... did I mention waiting?

No connection apparently is happening.. at least it does not do anything.

Did I do anything crucial wrong? So far I have to use kopete as IM. Pidgin
crashe{s,d} on incoming GW messages (did not test for a while. so this
might be solved). empathy.. well, see above.
