Hello,
I had a look at what's required to make pidgin the default IRC client in
11.0. The result is, we don't!
First of all, purple-url-handler is using depreciated dbus calls. This
has been a known bug (http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/3520) with the
Pidgin developers for the last 7 months.
Second, purple-url-handler is broken :-/ See
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=383574
Third, it's not possible to dynamically create a Pidgin IRC account when
clicking on an IRC link. That means that we would have to add silly
patches just to make this work (See Comment#2 in the above mentioned
bugzilla bug)
So unless someone have any strong objection, and/or want to fix up
pidgin to work properly, xchat should replace xchat-gnome instead of
pidgin.
Cheers,
Magnus
