YaST would choke on gnome-mime-data. If I uninstall it, upgrade most
of the GNOME packages and then reinstall, I'll still end up with about
60+ MB of things in /opt/gnome, and the GNOME installation is broken
(slab and some menu packages were still not upgraded, last time I
checked).

Seems like the safe option, when shifting to G:S, is to do the upgrade
when using the KDE desktop, and to begin by removing the old
/opt/gnome stuff completely.
