Purpose: 1. Make it easy for developers to release an application 2.
Make it easy for developers to market and for users to learn about that
application 3. Make it easy for users to install the application
Project Bretzn consists of three parts: the building of the package,
the publishing of the application, the marketing to the users and the
feedback cycle back to the developer. The building part consists of
plugins for IDEâs and integration with Build Services and using Lubos
Lunakâs OBS Generator (yes, still looking for a new name ) to
automatically generate cross-platform build files. Publishing sends the
app to a variety of App Stores and then markets it through announcing
it on Facebook, Twitter, via a RSS feed and the Social Desktop .
Finally, users can provide feedback by rating the application and
commenting on it, by writing bug reports and send messages to mailing
lists or forums. And all of that with one click (well, maybe a few
more). Status (as of Linuxtag 2011):

This sounds like the kind of thing we want!
Use Case:
The greatest use of this is in allowing users to know what is available
and read reviews and descriptions, as opposed to looking around online
then looking in repos.

And hopefully Bretzn will make it - problem is lack of development
right now. Anyone who knows a bit of QML could finish it in 2-3 weeks,
Frank is willing to mentor anyone who has time. So if whoever reads
this is up for it, just let me/him know :D

have you had any news on this Jos, it would be a tragedy if another
opensuse release rolls by with an appstore just out of reach?

we are in rapid danger of not having a KDE frontend for the Appstream
based app-store. despite the fact that the ball started rolling with
project bretzn a year ago it appears that it may not make it into 12.1,
for the sake of i am told is a small amount of coding*. opensuse even
sponsored a GSoC project to bring the Ubuntu Software Centre front-end
into opensuse, and i believe it went very well so cnograts to the coder
involved. frank's time is taken up with owncloud at the momemt, and he
had little response to his call for help, so consider this a last call:
if you want to see a bretzn KDE front-end to the opensuse app-store in
12.1, then step up. regards JBT :)
