[openFATE 312708] openSUSE Linux 12.1: Create a new firewall.
Feature changed by: Joseph Mitzen (duncreg)
Feature #312708, revision 10
Title: openSUSE Linux 12.1: Create a new firewall.

openSUSE Distribution: Unconfirmed
Priority
Requester: Important

Requested by: Genix Info (genixinfo)
Partner organization: openSUSE.org

Description:
My suggestion is to join all the features of SuSEfirewall2
(http://en.opensuse.org/SuSEfirewall2) , with Dynamic Firewall
(http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/DynamicFirewall) , FirewallD
(https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FirewallD/) and system-config-firewall
(http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SystemConfig/firewall) of Fedora Linux,
Interactive Firewall
(http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Projects/Interactive_Firewall) of Mandriva
Linux, dynfw (http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/dynfw.xml) of Gentoo Linux,
ufw (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncomplicated_Firewall) of Ubuntu
Linux, the Shorewall (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shorewall) , the
Firestarter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firestarter_%28firewall%29) ,
the Kmyfirewall (http://kmyfirewall/) , the PF (firewall)
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PF_%28firewall%29) , the Vuurmuur
(http://vuurmuur.sourceforge.net/) , the Firewall Builder
(http://www.fwbuilder.org/) , the Astaro Security Gateway Software
Appliance
(http://www.astaro.com/products/astaro-security-gateway-software-appliance)
, the Firewall Analyzer
(http://www.manageengine.com/products/firewall/) , the Smoothwall
(http://www.smoothwall.org/) , the ClearOS
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ClearOS) , the Endian Firewall
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endian_Firewall) , the Cisco IOS
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cisco_IOS) , the IPCop
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPCop) and IPFire
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPFire) , after this union of features,
it would create a new Firewall, more stable, secure, efficient,
current, complete, modern, flexible, integrated, manageable, easy and
fast to use, dynamic and interactive: SUSEfirewall3
I suggest using the name SUSEfirewall3, because then it can be used in
openSUSE Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop and Server. Also,
because using that name, was being accepted in part these features:
openSUSE Linux: Make it Global (Worldwide) in the World:
https://features.opensuse.org/312629 (312629)
Change the name SuSE Linux, by its present name openSUSE Linux:
https://features.opensuse.org/310156 (310156)
openSUSE Linux 12.1: Increased variety of packages, all packages:
https://features.opensuse.org/312628 (312628)

#2: Genix Info (genixinfo) (2011-08-04 19:30:27)
My suggestion is to complement what exists, to get better:
SUSEfirewall3

+ #3: Joseph Mitzen (duncreg) (2011-08-06 21:39:13) (reply to #2)
+ While we're at it, why don't we combine Fedora, Magaeia, Ubuntu,
+ Sabayon, and Puppy linux with openSUSE? :-) Are you serious? This is a
+ vague wish, not a specific, actionable feature request.
