[New: openFATE 312257] Snapshot/recovery feature with keeping apps
Feature added by: Kim Leyendecker (openLHAG)

Feature #312257, revision 1
Title: Snapshot/recovery feature with keeping apps

openSUSE Distribution: Unconfirmed
Priority
Requester: Important

Requested by: Kim Leyendecker (openlhag)
Partner organization: openSUSE.org

Description:
Dear developers! Dear users! Have a look at this picture:
http://i.computer-bild.de/imgs/3/3/2/3/4/4/3/Windows-8-Das-sind-die-geheimen-Microsoft-Unterlagen-360x270-066b406e14ab3a75.jpg
Such a recovery function would be nice for openSUSE 12.1/12.2 and would give
openSUSE an advantage against the whole linux-distros and even Mac OS X
(Windows will implementate it soon...) But it also will benefit for the users.
If you delete some config-files and clear my trash-folder, I can easy reset my
system to the early post-installation time BUT, at the same time, keep all my
private stuff like photos, music, mails, documents and even code files.
Wouldn´t be cool to have such a feature? The only thing which prevent this
coding-work by myself is the fact, that my knowledge in C and C++ is very
limited and can´t solve such a big project.

But we get excellent programmers @Novell/SUSE and our community, so I think it
would be a nice feature for the next openSUSE release!

Use Case:
destroyed system

- easy recovering - keeping private stuff alive

Business case (Partner benefit):
openSUSE.org: Because it´s cool and I want it :D

No seriously, because it would it make easy to our users to recover a system
and keeping their stuff.
