Feature #305783, revision 35
Title: Integrate latest stable KDE4 release

openSUSE-11.2: Done
Priority
Requester: Mandatory

Requested by: Stephan Binner (beineri)
Developer: Stephan Binner (beineri)

Description:
Depending on what the openSUSE 11.2 schedule allows, the next release
has to contain either the latest KDE 4.2.x or KDE 4.3.x packages
including usual nifties (see external link) and integration with the
distribution. In any case it should be tested and run with Qt 4.5 and
KDE applications should be used in KDE4 versions as far as possible.

Relations:
- Ideas what to achieve with KDE on 11.2 (url:
http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/Ideas/11.2)

Test Case:
- check if KDE version is 4.3
+ * Check if KDE version is >=4.3
+ * for exampl kde4-config --version )

Discussion:
#1: Michael Löffler (michl19) (2009-02-03 15:46:02)
Stefan, when will Qt 4.5 be released?

#2: Michael Löffler (michl19) (2009-02-03 15:47:04) (reply to #1)
Uuups, sorry for misspelling, Stephan.

#3: Stephan Binner (beineri) (2009-02-03 15:55:59) (reply to #1)
Qt 4.5 is scheduled for March 2009.

#4: Stephan Binner (beineri) (2009-02-06 10:20:22)
Qt 4.5 RC 1 and KDE 4.2 have entered Factory so implementation and
compatibility testing have already started. :-)

#5: Jay Mistry (zmdmw52) (2009-02-14 11:37:30)
Would be good if the next openSUSE release (oS 11.2) also included KDE
3.5, since that is considered to be more stable, with a large user-
base. Especially in view of so many problems (plasma component/desktop
crash), reported with KDE 4.2.

#6: Stephan Binner (beineri2) (2009-02-15 17:52:34) (reply to #5)
KDE 3.5 is not topic of this Fate entry, it has been already long time
ago decided during 11.1 discussion that it will not be part of 11.2
(see http://news.opensuse.org/2008/09/09/kde-in-opensuse-111-and-beyond/)
and most of its packages have been already removed from Factory.

#7: William Simon Lewis (williamsimonlewis) (2009-03-04 22:16:32)
Recent posts indicate that openSUSE 11.2 will be shipped with KDE 4.3
therefore it would be logical to move KDE 4.2 from openSUSE 11.1
factory to stable.

#8: Stephan Binner (beineri) (2009-03-06 07:17:02) (reply to #7)
This is the wrong place to discuss the structure of Build Service
repositories. Use the opensuse-kde mailing list or team meetings for
that.

#9: William Simon Lewis (williamsimonlewis) (2009-03-08 13:11:00)
The title of this feature is "Integrate latest stable KDE4 release" and
I agree. Stable desktop releases should be integrated in the stable
repositories not backported into the factory(=unstable) repos as is the
case now.

#10: jimbo bigcreed (dimble_thricefoon) (2009-06-04 16:22:34)
This is one I would like to see.
4.3.1 preferably

#11: Lubos Lunak (llunak) (2009-08-05 13:18:36)
Done, 4.3.0 is in. We will continue to pick up bugfix releases as long
as possible.
