Hi, With schily being modified in Factory it appears that it collides with star-rmt, tar-rmt and cpio-mt showing this message:
Problem: schily-mt-2018.05.25-4.1.x86_64 conflicts with cpio-mt provided by cpio-mt-2.12-4.14.x86_64 Solution 1: deinstallation of cpio-mt-2.12-4.14.x86_64 Solution 2: deinstallation of star-rmt-1.5.3-7.3.x86_64 Solution 3: deinstallation of tar-rmt-1.30-1.2.x86_64 Solution 4: keep obsolete star-rmt-1.5.3-7.3.x86_64
The rmt server program from star or schilytools is definitely better than the software that comes with gtar. The reason is that the GNU implementation inores the fact that Linux uses incompatible MT OP values that conflict even in the range 0..7 that all other platforms make compatible to the 1981 implementation from BSD-4.2. The GNU implementation also ignores the fact that the over the wire "mt status" call from 1981 does not work correctly if server and client use different byte order. BTW: you of course need to use librmt to be able to make use of the advantages from the schily implementation, but with the GNU implementation, it will even fail with user friendly software like star.
