Main problem: it has destroyed Grub install of my main system, overwriting it instead of installing in the test partition.
Test system is in sda9, and has written grub to sda4 (extended partition) - notice the (,msdos9) entry in the output from bootinfo script: It worked fine for me, installing into "sda1". But that's a primary partition, so not the equivalent. I don't have a computer where I can test with a logical partition. Maybe I'll test in a VM if I get around to it.
As I recall, this was always a problem. When I want to install in a logical partition, it has been tricky to persuade the installer to get it right It was never a problem here till today.
Grub was supposed to be installed on "/", a logical partition. How to tell the bios to boot that one is my issue, not the installer's. The installer can not decide to install grub on another partition without telling me. I had no problem at all in having the installer use the Root Partition to install grub, and the Root Partition (ext4) is a logical partition within the extended partition.
A question: were you installing 15.0 using English or using Spanish language (?is it possible to install it in Spanish?)? I ask because of what you said earlier, "I told it to install grub "on partition" which I have not seen -- I see "Root Partition". English. I did not take photos, I did not expect problems.
Aaah, and there's the problem: "I did not expect problems". I*always* expect problems -- even if it is to an existing installation like 42.3 :-). How many times have I read on this list the words of advice, "But it's only an Alpha (or a Beta) so expect problems" :-).
