~6500 here. Which makes me wonder: is it possible to not increment build number (not producing new package) if package content didn't change? That'd be relief for, say, interpreted languages.
That is supposed to already happen. RPMs are compared and if no change happened, the new build is tossed. There are a small number of packages that have the date and time of the build embedded in the RPM, but that is a bug, not a feature. Most packages don't have that bug.
