Since this happens in boot selection screen also, I guess its a problem with MacBook hardware.
I've run the hardware tests and they showed no hardware problem.
Let me know if there is any known solution, your ideas, experiences or workaround for the same.
It seems to involve the USB and DisplayPort ports, as most things often return to normal if I connect an external monitor via DisplayPort. Also, I've read somewhere that removing full disk encryption in Mac OS resolves a similar issue, but I haven't tested it.
