Howdy everyone, Tumbleweed-with-Plasma user. I submitted a patch to KDE for https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=377994, but they say that the issue is with openSUSE for re-packaging the plasma.desktop file. They say you shouldn't do that: https://phabricator.kde.org/D5471#102634
as you noticed I already replied to the review request. Cheers, Fabian
"I should think the solution to your problem is asking opensuse nicely to stop changing plasma's version numbers [...]"
"I don't know why openSUSE started replacing the upstream plasma5 session file with something that is basically an exact copy, I was not involved in the process. However, I also think that it is wrong and needs to be cleaned up."
This re-packaging requires a downstream patch to kinfocenter to change the name of the looked-for desktop file to plasma5.desktop (from plasma.desktop). Using the unadulterated upstream plasma desktop file should also allow using the upstream kinfocenter, too. Less work all around!
I've filed a bugzilla ticket to track this: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=openSUSE%20Tumbleweed
