I'm not sure about that. The ide file accepts this syntax: DEVICES_FORCE_IDE_DMA="/dev/sda:-S220 /dev/sdb:-S220 /dev/sdc:-S220 /dev/sdd:-S220 /dev/sde:-S220 /dev/sdf:-S220" And I tested by calling the script, which runs correctly - the errors are not from the script, but from improper options to hdparm: Telcontar:~ # /usr/lib/udev/idedma.sh /dev/sdb /dev/sdb: setting up IDE DMA mode -S220 - -d 1 -X -S220 /dev/sdb /dev/sdb: setting using_dma to 1 (on) HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device setting xfermode to 0 (default PIO mode) SG_IO: bad/missing sense data, sb[]: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0a 00 00 00 00 24 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 setting standby to 220 (18 minutes + 20 seconds) HDIO_GET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device Telcontar:~ # The file /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/56-idedma.rules has to be modified from: # start idedma script for each added IDE device ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="block", KERNEL=="hd*[!0-9]", RUN+="/lib/udev/idedma.sh $env{DEVNAME}" to something like # start idedma script for each added IDE device ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="block", KERNEL=="sd*[!0-9]", RUN+="/lib/udev/idedma.sh $env{DEVNAME}" - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
