HI all, after updating to the latest Tumbleweed snaphot 20161104 I get strange network connection problems when using hostnames although nslookup can resolve them. Example: rkrell:~ # ping mail.google.com ping: mail.google.com: System error rkrell:~ # nslookup
www.heise.de Server: 192.168.0.1 Address: 192.168.0.1#53
Non-authoritative answer: Name: www.heise.de Address: 193.99.144.85
exit
rkrell:~ # ping 193.99.144.85 PING 193.99.144.85 (193.99.144.85) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 193.99.144.85: icmp_seq=1 ttl=236 time=26.8 ms 64 bytes from 193.99.144.85: icmp_seq=2 ttl=236 time=24.5 ms ^C --- 193.99.144.85 ping statistics --- 2 packets transmitted, 2 received, 0% packet loss, time 1002ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 24.597/25.734/26.871/1.137 ms I've "googled" around about this rare topic and found this discussion: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=218877 In fact, I had a changed line in /etc/nsswitch.conf (working in all previous Tumbleweed snapshots: hosts: files wins dns instead of: hosts: files dns Changing it back made my network working again immediately without reboot. I'd appreciate a patch to Samba 4.5 (smbclient) if possible, which apparently caused this issue. Thank you very much.
