Hi all, Back from work travel and vacation today and I finally got to testing the Leap beta, I noticed that enlightenment was no longer a DE option, (Neither was LXDE). I was about to file a bug report as Leap 42.1 had a bug where enlightenment didn't show up but just before I did I noticed https://github.com/yast/skelcd-control-openSUSE/pull/57 which intentionally removed LXDE and Enlightenment. While there was some discussion on this list a while back about what DE's should qualify for this list there wasn't a general consensus reached about what should happen, certainly not one that involved removing Enlightenment and LXDE. There was some consensus that it might be nice to consider replacing LXDE with something else in the future but that none of the alternatives are quite there at the moment. Most discussions in fact went the opposite way towards making all desktops more equal. Installing minimal X11 then Installing enlightenment from the custom software selection results in xdm being installed and booting to icewm from there the user has to edit config files to boot enlightenment / lightdm this is a major regression on previous behavior presumably LXDE would have the same issues. As a result of this major usability regression I would like to revert this change (Within my technical scope and knowledge) unless someone else can find another way to fix it (Not within my knowledge). A case could probably be also made to add Mate and LXQt to the list of "Other" DE's currently these are the only two other DE's in the Leap Beta which have patterns making it possible to add them. I however am unsure of there quality and if there at the point where they should be added but presumably because they have patterns in Leap. The reason I started contributing enlightenment support in openSUSE is because openSUSE has always been a community distro that treats all desktops equally and given I haven't heard a strong indication from the community that they want otherwise and for openSUSE just to focus on 1 or 2 major desktops I don't see why such a change should not be accepted. Unless of course someone plans on adding a different way of managing desktop selection but i'm guessing its too late for that. Each of these desktops are capable of working on there own without any other DE installed but as of beta2. -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adeliade Australia, UTC+9:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B
