I don't get that: sudo xterm & [1] 6526 Ishtar:law> But when I wanted to su and stay "su'd" for a while: I used sudo su: along with alias su='su -p' DISPLAY and remote host are no longer set in 12.3+ not set.

There is sudo -E, but that still screws around:
