No, that point is moot. When the issue was discussed here it was demonstrated that there were sound reasons to have /usr on a separate partition for some people or circumstances, and the solution was to put the required parts into initrd. We are not going to argue again why /usr separate is good or bad, needed or not. The point Linda makes is that there should be no need for initrd.
