I don't think how it's controlled has been changed by anything in years. My .bashrc has this:
setterm -foreground white -bold -background blue -blank 59 -store
I mean if there is something in openSUSE that does this after booting automatically. I know that my screen gets blanked after some time of non-activity, but the display is not switched off. I want the display to be switched off via dpms, and this does not happen. Only this: -blank [0-60|force|poke] (virtual consoles only) Sets the interval of inactivity, in minutes, after which the screen will be automatically blanked (using APM if available). Without an argument, gets the blank status (returns which vt was blanked or zero for unblanked vt). The force option keeps screen blank even if a key is pressed. The poke option unblank the screen. In fact, I did "seterm -blank force" and all my VT were powered off, so the feature exists. But it appears that I would have to run "setterm - -blank 12" on each VT, instead of issuing a general configuration order. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
