Does such a script still make sense? There is any hardware for which DRI is not available anymore? Perhaps it would be easier to just don't use it in vegastrike.
There is the possibility of running in vesa mode, or perhaps non-3d-capable drivers (even though the hardware is capable).
We always get our share of "bug" reports that are due to misconfigured drivers.
