I was thinking about how to specify a list of packages to download and wanted to be able to specify just updating/downloading the packages needed for an x86_64 system, without the requirement of downloading the entire x586/x686 package set as well. Currently, I don't see a way to do this -- since the packages in the i[56]86 dirs needed for x86_64 seem to be mixed in with the i[58]86 distro -- OR -- as this all been completely separated, such that if you need a 32-bit package with x86_64, it's in that dir? ... i.e. x86_64/package-32bit-version along side x86_64/package-version? Is that all sorted out now so it's safe to download only the x86_64 dir for an x86_64 system (presuming you don't want to run 32-bit progs -- which, I know, would make for a sub-optimal system right now...) But this is more thinking about 'updates' -- it seems I'm more often needing x86_64 updates than x86 updates, so should I be safe in d/ling just the x86_64? I know at one point samba had some 32-bit packages that needed to be installed, but have they been moved (or copied) to also reside under the x86_64 dir? Thanks.... It would be nice to know if you don't have 32-bit machines that you don't have to download 2 separate architectures... and I'm sure customers would appreciate only needing to download the archs that they have ('noarch' would be included along side the others, by 'default' as it is used by both)...
