Haven't read this earlier.

Maybe you should have a look at SXEmacs
http://www.sxemacs.org/
It's a very actively developed XEmacs fork. My plan was to get it into 
factory as soon as some minor build problems and conflicts will be 
solved.

There are git snapshotted rpms in my home (currently rebuilding)
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=sxemacs&project=home%3Arudi_m%3Adevel-snap
allthough still a lot build failures (%check) which I want to get fixed 
by upstream before sr'ing it to factory.
