I'm personally not against moving to pure systemd if and when the
distro is ready, but to claim Cristian proposed anything shy of
killing off sysVinit is not dealing with the RFC as written.

I think you misunderstood. AFAIU Cristian wants to remove those scripts in
case systemd is used. He does not care about what you do if you operate
sysvinit.
If Cristian means that, he should say that. He has instead said he wants to
see the rpmlint packaging rules modified to enforce /etc/init.d/* be an
illegal directory on all openSUSE packages.
That is a very strong and anti-sysVinit rule.
I'm personally not against moving to pure systemd if and when the
distro is ready, but to claim Cristian proposed anything shy of
killing off sysVinit is not dealing with the RFC as written.
