Thinkpads especially. I never control the fan manually, the EC
(embedded controller) takes care of that.
Make sure you use the latest BIOS. My T520 with a mid/high-end i7 runs
at 114F most of the time, nearly silently, with outstanding battery
life.
Outstanding, A+, would buy again. :-)
