 1) The email in that article clearly tells that this is a
    coordinated move between several distributions, among them
    openSUSE. This is not specific for Fedora.

 2) systemd *is* upstream, and it introduced /run. When it got
    selected for openSUSE, /run was selected, too.

Methinks that your real crusade is that you want to avoid systemd
under any circumstances. Good luck with that; I don't think you'll
succeed.
