I'll use the permanent workaround, I think.
Here http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Most_annoying_bugs_12.1#Upgrade it says:
Upgrade
Bug #725917 System is switched from sysvinit to systemd while upgrade. The workaround is to install the sysvinit-init package. As soon as its install gets acknowledged the removal of the systemd-sysvinit package will be suggested.
Perhaps I would prefer to have it installed but inactive, like when using the F5 key. But they don't comment that option there.
The suggested workaround keeps the packages systemd and systemd-presets-branding-openSUSE installed. It's currently impossible to remove them. At the end /sbin/init must point to something. Adding an additional new sysconfig setting or an additional command to switch between both would cause extra work which might not be payed off due to the limited time (I hope) it would be of use. But submit requests are as always more than welcome. And you have read bnc#725917? If I get it right the suggestion made by Ludwig with comment 3 would have made the pain in the case of an upgrade less big. Unfortunately nobody cared earlier. Luckily this thread must end in three days as with the release of openSUSE 12.1 any further discussion then belongs to the general opensuse list. :) @Jdd: Thanx for your reply even on the wrong list. From the list archive you know whome you have to smack for the distraction. Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany
