I have the same on an Acer 5520 but atheros AR5BXB63 w/ath5k driver and NM
doesn't provide the opportunity to select wireless (grayed out). "ifup
wlan0" does get a wireless address but only inet6. No problem connedting
wired.
ifup wlan0:

Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01) command 'iwconfig wlan0 power off'
returned
Error for wireless request "Set Power Management" (8B2C) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Operation not supported.
wlan0 warning: wpa_supplicant already running on interface

I have the Live CD version of the latest pre-release version of
openSUSE 12.1. Everything seems to work, except I can't get
KNetworkManager to work with the WiFi (Realtek rtl8192ce module). I
can get it to create a wlan0, if I use the traditional "ifup" method.
However, when I try to use KNetworkMangager, I can't even enable
WiFi. When I click on "Enable", it quickly disables it again.
Not to hijack the thread but problems may be related...
