If I open it it tells me:
We need Networkmanager version >=0.9.0 to work , found ''

Installed version of the plasmoid and Networkmanager-kde4* is
0.9.1git20110911
and other parts of Networkmanager is 0.9.0-7.1
Only used repo in this installation is factory and other x86_64 factory
installations don't show that problem.
Known problem or should I open a bugreport

Not a known bug. Are you using systemd? Is NetworkManager running in
background?

I have seen that message, but only when NetworkManager has not started.

Larry

I have the same problem right after installation in VirtualBox from KDE
Live DVD. Checking "enable networking" does not seem to do anything.
After clicking on "Manage Connections..." I see an empty list of Wired
connections and the "Add.." button is greyed out with no possibility to
do anything. I do not seem to have NetworkManager running. What is the
process name exactly?

JC

I found out that by default in yast (under Network Settings) Network Setup Method is set to "Traditional Method with ifup" instead of "User Controlled with NetworkManager". Is it meant to be that way?

Changing the setting resolves the issue.
