Did you ever try a bugreport against bnc? I did more than once, and the
results are, well, very mixed. For example, user search[1] is still (and
again - IIRC for the third time) disabled for non-novell/suse people,
and that makes it really annoying to search for the correct assignee.
See https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=670590 and all the
details in https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=682324 (non-
public, because it would make the bugzilla team look $@§%$&!@$%§&
^W^W^W^W^W^W^W^W the policy for any bugreports against bugzilla is to
make them non-public).
Sometimes I have the impression that the bugzilla team doesn't really
care about requests that come from openSUSE :-(
BTW: there's at least a workaround for searching users - you can type a
partial mail address in the assignee / add CC / ... field and bugzilla
tries to find a match (for example, enter "cboltz" in the "Assigned to"
field to assign a bugreport to me).
But that's totally undocumented and most people aren't aware of it.
And guess why at least this workaround is enabled... [2]
Another thing: It would be very useful if people could just enter the
package name when reporting a bug, and bugzilla would then lookup the
correct assignee for this package. (Needless to say that this
information is available in the buildservice and can be queried there.)
But given the situation with user search, I don't think we can get that
with bnc :-( (for comparison: IIRC the good old bugzilla.suse.de had
this feature.)
At the moment the workarounds are
a) use "osc maintainer", then copy&paste the mail address
b) hope that the screening team finds some time to reassign the
bugreport to the right person (at the moment there's a backlog - I
don't know if it's normal or caused by hackweek)
Same for me, and at the moment I agree that everybody should invest his
time to make 12.1 a great release.
However, having a bugzilla.suse.com or bugzilla.opensuse.org would give
us more control over it and reduce the pain. Therefore I'm afraid we
might have to bite the bullet sooner or later...
(In case you ask: no, I don't have time to setup or maintain a bugzilla
installation.)
Besides that, I'm not too happy with the separation of bugzilla and FATE
because their usage target sometimes overlaps and it's not always clear
what should be reported as enhancement in bugzilla and what as feature
request in (open)FATE.
<dream>The perfect solution would be a software that merges the features
of bugzilla and FATE.</dream>
But that's a totally different topic ;-)
Regards,
Christian Boltz
[1] user search = the little icon next to the assignee/add CC/... field
that links to https://bugzilla.novell.com/userlookup.cgi (only
visible for people in the novellonly[3] group)
There's a little fun fact, but please don't tell it to the bugzilla
team: userlookup.cgi can be used by everybody, it's just the missing
icon near the assignee/add CC/... fields so that you have to
copy&paste the mail address...
Oh, BTW: the official reason why user search is disabled in bugzilla
is to avoid that people can find out mail addresses using
userlookup.cgi *eg*
[2] Answer: that's the result of one of my "fights" with the bugzilla
team :-) (bug 374374, non-public "of course")
[3] now I'm waiting for someone to request a "suseonly" group ;-))

I understand, I am also sure that they would not let me at their code
and internal tools. If they do, I switch disto in a hartbeat, because
that means others with the same level as I have can change stuff.
I don't trust myself. :-) [houghi in opensuse-wiki]

OK, but how many years does it take to make the proper switch?
Wow, we have one willing to work on the setup of a suse.com bugzilla
including the migration of the old bugs, and most important
maintaining it the next five, ten, or even more years!
I always welcome such a strong commitment to the project!

Sorry kids, what's wrong with bugzilla.novell.com? Despite the fact
that it uses the novell.com domain name?
