I think we could even completely drop the "cd/dvd" reference (not the
fact that the image is usable as dvd), for example use 1gb (in fact
900Mb), 2Gb (1900Mb?), 4Gb (3800Mb?) as limits. 4 Gb being the "dvd" one.

Like this we could go upper, 8Gb usb device are common nowaday.

Not common among the poor.
Actually, it is hard to buy an USB-stick smaller than 4GB.
Those things with just 1GB come free with magazines, chocolat bars...
