Did you try if pigz is deterministic?
It could be deterministic, only different than gzip.
There is no reason for it not to be deterministic.
There is lots of reasons for it to be different than gzip, though.
If that turns out to be the case, then it's one solid reason you can't just start giving people pigz when they asked for gzip.
