right, giving a VMware guest access to the host graphics hardware could
be exploited by executing evil shader code, which would give full write
access to the RAM :-(
I'm not an expert in this area and don't know if the vmgfx driver is
affected by this - but it should be checked by someone who understands
the issue ;-)

the vmwgfx driver is becoming ready for testing ; this vmware written
video driver is targeting virtualised system running on a vmware
virtualisation tool. With the right Mesa gallium component, it
enables 3D acceleration on virtualised guest, using host hardware
(from windows or linux system).
Is it possible to enable the kernel module for VMWGFX to be built ?
It might help testing gnome-shell (with mutter ux) safely inside a
vmware box.
