With an 18-month release cycle, that will make it 37 months or over 3 years, before a 2.x version would be available.
It's a 8-month cycle, not 18 month. Next release is Nov. I think. So less than 12 months. Also, if you really want it, you could ask here on factory if 2.x can be pushed into Tumbleweed and then upgrade your system to Tumbleweed. fyi: Tumbleweed is the rolling release version of openSUSE. I don't think it has a large user base yet, so I suspect you may be the first to hit a given problem. But I've been running on my workstation since the first of the year and I only recall one hick-up.
