be pushed into Tumbleweed and then upgrade your system to Tumbleweed.
fyi: Tumbleweed is the rolling release version of openSUSE. I don't
think it has a large user base yet, so I suspect you may be the first
to hit a given problem. But I've been running on my workstation since
the first of the year and I only recall one hick-up.

or over 3 years, before a 2.x version would be available.
It's a 8-month cycle, not 18 month.
