Hello, I have a little sound problem with kde.
* where are located the kde error logs? I don't see them in /var/log ("sound device removed" say a message that flashes and desapear) - I would like to look at them and if necessary share them :-)
check ~/.xession-errors
* is there a place with a kernel update history (that is a list of kernel updates with the date they where pushed)? I have the same problem with 11.3 (2.6.34.7-07) and 11.4RC1 (2.6.37), but's it recent
rpm -q --changelog kernel-desktop
the problem is the following: at start kde issues a message saying "the sound card was removed, do you want me to forget it?" but after that the sound works pretty well. This was not the case say 15 dayx ago.
so I wonder if it's a hardware problem (my computer is new - less than 1 month) or a software problem. I couldn't fix it with the help of the openSUSE forum.
that happen when phonon detects changes in the hardware ( could be also a fake change, like activating pulseaudio ) Normally 11.4 come with pulseaudio activated by default, then kde4 should have also gstreamer as phonon default backend. Don't know if it's well supported with two cards.
if it's a kernel problem, I can open a bugzilla.
I have two sound cards (included in the box, I never openned it), one is seen as nvidia for hdmi, the other is seen as realtek by windows 7 and as intel by openSUSE
Normally you will be able to check each of them. With yast, then with systemsettings under kde
thanks jdd
