The crash was in "curl" apparently, so during the downloading, so its
not the repo or rpm state, but something in the download magic I suspect.
thanks; i'm not really clear about what might have gone wrong in the "download magic," but unless it happens again i won't try to figure this out any further. there's quite some things going on during repo updates these days, with multiple connections to (possibly) multiple mirrors, and my internet connection is not reliable at all -- not hard to imagine that things can go wrong at times. good to know it's not the repos though.
