I think that the idea of displaying a map upfront is nice. Geodiscovery too, but it is not so simple. Perhaps if the network can be tried in the background, and if found guess the location, but else, nothing.

Agree. Still, how many (apart from dial-up users perhaps) would have to
set up the network manually? If we take a single PC, connected to the
internet, somewhere there will likely be a DHCP service, either in the
router or direct from the provider.
