I can't got you, how to enabling the NetworkManager switched from "hardware id" to "Host Name"?
Roman Bysh 06/29/10 1:45 AM>>> Hello Listmates,
In previous versions of openSUSE (by default), enabling the NetworkManager switched from "hardware id" to "Host Name".
Hardware ID: CPE0xxxxxxxx-CM000xxxxx
Host Name: opensuse
In openSUSE RC1 it no longer works. It still uses the "hardware id" !!
Can we please fix this now?
Cheers!

During the installation, the openSUSE installer probes and assigns the Hwaddress of eth0 as the host name. I AM using a desktop PC.
After this, you run Yast --> Network Devices --> Network Settings to manually enable "User Controlled with NetworkManager".
You then select the Hostname/DNS tab, and type in the "Hostname" field
opensuse
When I log out and restart my system, it should switch to opensuse.
It DOES NOT in openSUSE 11.3 RC1. However, in openSUSE 11.0, 11.1 and 11.2 I CAN RENAME the hostname.
Any thoughts?
=> Rename the hostname is fine in my laptop, and I still a little confuse what's the relation that the hostname setting with 'Hardware ID'?

I am using a desktop with a cable connection (no wireless). My mobo is an Asus P5Q. Perhaps, it appears different with a laptop using a wireless. Ever since I switched from Mandrake/Mandriva to openSUSE 10.0, the installers for each version use the hardware address of my ethernet card as the default host name when I open konsole in KDE. After the installation had finished, I had to open Yast and the KNetworkManager, to assign a host name that uses characters instead of hex numbers. I cannot believe that I am the only person in the entire world experiencing this with their ISP. I am using Rogers in Ontario, Canada. Cheers!
