Could it be the kernel panic?: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=582222 Erase the VGA= from boot params so you get text mode, then see what it says. -johnm On 03/05/2010 01:05 PM, Donn Washburn wrote:
Hey Group;
For years I have always taken openSuSE basic kernel and compiled it with my CPU. So, a i586 is converted to a i686 and NV.run to work. That seems to often help speed things up and no crashes. Anyway, I simple copy /proc/.config and move it to kernel source .config (after gunzip) - I then run make menuconfig -> save it and then "make, make modules, make modules_install" After it is complete mv System.map and arch/x86/boot/bzImage and mkinitrd plus edit /boot/grub/menu.lst. Reboot and it has always worked correctly before. However, now days it boots up to the part where VGA is selected before any HDs are mounted and locks up/dies
What is new to prevent VGA=0x346 to fail.
It is openSuSE's kernel 2.6.33-5 with the only change is the CPU and a custom default name (so as not to ruin openSuSE's -5-default
