 I ran into a similar problem. After the first reboot the screen goes to black 
except for the mouse pointer. The thing that is holding up the completion of 
the installation is a warning message that lirc is missing or has not been 
installed. 

If you do not click on the OK button on the notification window, the install 
will not finish. It's hard to do if the entire screen is black.

A work around for this is to use a live CD i.e. Parted Magic. Create and 
format the partitions first. Then, install Milestone 2 and you will be able to 
see the entire installation.
