For the last couple live kde builds the boot process hangs at
initializing ramzswap
how can I disable ramzswap?

You're seeing bug#577825 and I have no idea what causes it.

I understand kde 4.4rc3 had a major memory leak that is resolved in
kde 4.4 that was just released. If your lucky that may have been the
cause?

This happens before any KDE program starts from what I understand. This is
compcache, a rather experimental feature - we may need to remove again.

Greetings, Stephan
