Hi! In 11.1 the mode of exit for yast-software-manager upon the successful completion of installation was to exit without confirmation. I wanted to ask if for 11.2 this default could be changed to show the summary page instead, as it is much more useful/reassuring for a user to see this after a successful confirmation rather than the software-manager abruptly disappearing.
Please note that I understand how to set this to be the exit mode of yast- software-management from /etc/sysconfigeditor in yast. I feel that showing the summary page, which is really nice btw, should be the default way in 11.2
Or you can set the value in the ncurses (text mode) packager using "Configuration" -> "Action after Package Installation" menu item. (Thanks to Bubli!) Well, it's pretty hard to decide what should be the default. Many people complained when the behavior was changed, on the other hand I received many requests to change it. At the beginning the package manager was closed immediately after package installation. Some people didn't like it so the famous "Do you want to install more packages?" popup had been introduced. Some people were happy but some people complained that they don't like the change. So later the popup was removed and many people were happy, but again, I received many complains that the popup is missing. So what to do? How to make everybody happy? So I have introduced the sysconfig variable to make it configurable so everybody can set the preferred behavior. But I didn't change the default. Because I think it would be very confusing to have completely different behavior in three consecutive openSUSE releases, moreover the package manager now starts really fast... I'm not sure if this can be solved properly, too many people with different needs... IMO the only thing which is missing (or which should be improved) is GUI configuration in Qt and Gtk so users don't have to start the sysconfig editor and the setting would be more visible. (BTW I personally use "summary" mode, I can decide what to do after package installation and the installation overview is sometimes important for me.) -- Best Regards Ladislav Slezák Yast Developer ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SUSE LINUX, s.r.o. e-mail: lslezak@suse.cz Lihovarská 1060/12 tel: +420 284 028 960 190 00 Prague 9 fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
