I used to use the installation DVD, with the option "repair", or even "single mode", in case I need to edit something manually into the broken system.
My M7 is a virtual-machine, so I always have a working copy and other which is the "under test" version :-) .

Ah, OK. I which case may I suggest that the next time you have a problem please give all the relevant details about your setup when asking for assistance.
