If you were able to get to the menu.lst in /grub/boot then all you need
to have done is to rename menu.lst.old to menu.lst (and either remove
the existing, non-working, menu.lst or rename it to something like
menu.lst.old.old).

When a new kernel is installed, it renames the exsting (old) menu.lst to
menu.lst.old and then creates a new menu.lst. Normally this is done
without creating any problems but the MSx series obviously has a bug in
it and the new menu.lst created is rubbish.
