The packages that were selected for Update are in Pict [3]. Is there a problem with signing of some packages in the KDE4 Factory (http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/open SUSE_11.1/) repo ?
The packages for which there were error messages (all regarding wrong checksum) were:
- libqt4 - python-sip - libqca2.2-2.02-64.i586.rpm - libqt4-sql-4.5.2-57.1.i586 - libqt4-sql-mysql-4.5.2-59.1.i586 - libqt4-qt3support - libqt4-sql-sqllite - libqt4-X11 - libqt4\webkit4-4.5.2 - libqt4-qtscript
Weird. Maybe it's related to publishing being disabled for KKFD as we're awaiting KDE 4.3.1 (released on Tuesday if all goes well).
From the error messages displayed ( Picts [1], [2], & [3]; same message happens for each of the afore-mentioned pkgs), it seems there is a difference in package verification signatures in local repo cache & what is downloaded from oS 11.1 KDE4 Factory repo; (It seems 'zypper cache/zypper.db does not exist anymore; & I don't know how the new 'solv' system works ... see this thread from openSUSE Mailing Genereal List http://linux.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/SuSE/2008-06/msg02903.html).
So, I tried the following cmds, so as to refresh the package list
metadata and possibly clean the cache for incorrect/effete package
verification signatures:
# rpmdb --rebuilddb
# zypper refresh
But this also did not help. A possible solution may be to disable GPG
signature checks for downloaded packages from the KDE:KDE4 Factory
repo; but I don't know how to do this
KDE 3 and KDE 4
The KDE4 packages install into the /usr prefix, so KDE3 and KDE4 can safely be installed at the same time.
To prevent the accidental starting of KDE4 applications within a KDE3 session add at the top of /opt/kde3/bin/startkde PATH=/opt/kde3/bin:${PATH/:\/opt\/kde3\/bin} export PATH
If you are using another window manager then adding this line to the .bashrc file should also load the correct applications.
This has been already done in the Factory and KDE:KDE3 packages which also contain some other minor patches for better co-existence with KDE4 (may need to run >kbuildsycoca --noincremental once to become fully active).
Is the above still valid (after KDE 3 & KDE 4 package renaming, and
addition of KDE-Playground repository) ?
I have checked the < /opt/kde3/bin/startkde> file on my installation
and find that the mentioned line <below>, is there in that file at the
top.
