I can't resize the display of a Gnome guest in VirtualBox. I'm stuck

try as root in guest : sax2 -m 0=vboxvideo
are you using live cd ? if yes which build ?

You also need to install the "guest additions" for the higher res
screens AFAIK.

if you are using openSUSE live CD as guest, you don't need install
"guest additions", xorg modules for high res (and other features) are in
xorg-x11-driver-virtualbox-ose and this package is already on live CD by
default,
you only need to have proper xorg.conf, which you could handle by "sax2
-m 0=vboxvideo"

You would not need a "proper" xorg.conf, if the vboxvideo would detect the
current resolution. This is what Bug #525243 is about. Known since 3 weeks
now.
